Today’s world situation seems rather chaotic and fearful. When God created the universe He made something good and beautiful. It was mankind that spoiled it and brought chaos through disobedience to God. So we should not be surprised at today’s world events. Similar times have happened before. Noah worked many years to prepare a way to be saved when things were so bad God was going to destroy everything with a flood. Abraham was distraught over the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah. Yes, we live in fearful times, but we should not think this is something new or beyond God’s knowledge or power. He knows where we are and He knows about the anxiety we feel.
I was encouraged when I read Psalm 62. David reminded me of God’s love for mankind and His power over evil. God knows all about us. He wants us to put our hope and trust in Him. He is our fortress and will never be shaken. Our government leaders are not our rescuers and may even disappoint us at times. Let’s continue to pray for them, asking God to give wisdom and guidance as they lead us.
Here is part of Psalm 62. Let these words encourage your heart today as you put your trust in God.
“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge”
(Psalm 62:5-8).
“One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done”
(Psalm 62:11-12).
